sharply criticised the actions of the FSB and Public Prosecutor's Office
against the head of YUKOS.
In Melnikov's view "the actions of the FSB and Public Prosecutor's
Office will damage the Russian economy."
According to Melnikov, the arrest of Khodorkovsky is a disgrace. He
thinks that developments at around YUKOS have been reducing investors'
confidence about stabliity in Russia.
"The people acting against Khodorkovsky and YUKOS don't think that
they are bound by the law," said Melnikov. "Ivanov, Ustinov,
Sechin, Zaostrovtsev - this is a "gang of four." An open and
transparent audit of the activities of these officials should be carried
out," thinks Melnikov. Melnikov also thinks that the liberal part
of the State Duma and society as a whole will try "and hope it will
succeed" in making them release Khodorkovsky.
