Ekaterinburg, April 1, 2002. The third term of office should
be abolished for everybody in Russia: for both the president and
all governors and there should be no exceptions. The leader of
the YABLOKO party Grigory Yavlinsky made this statement during
a press conference on April 1, 2002.
According to Yavlinsky, if the top official is not changed for
15 years, this will inevitably hamper further development of the
system of governing and eradicate any attempts to fight corruption.
Yavlinsky will not participate in the coming gubernatorial elections.
However, he does not rule out the possibility that the Sverdlovsk
regional branch of YABLOKO will run in the gubernatorial elections
of 2007. It will be difficult to enhance YABLOKO's own candidate
for this high post, especially in the Sverdlovsk region.
