There is no doubt that Russia is part of the international coalition
in the fight with terrorism. This statement was made by Yabloko’s
leader Grigory Yavlinsky after the end of a closed discussion
in the State Duma on the problem of combatting international terrorism.
He also made it clear that this proceeds both from the position
of the head of the state and the results of today’s discussion
in the [lower] chamber [of the Russian parliament]. According
to Yavlinsky, the deputies had virtually no objection to this
view, as indicated by the corresponding resolution of the State
Duma prepared by the International Committee of the Duma. Yavlinsky
stated that Yabloko would insist on the immediate allocation of
additional funds within the framework of the budget for the current
year to reinforce Russia’s borders, increase security for nuclear
power stations and air flight safety. Yavlinsky stressed once
again that imports of spent nuclear fuel into Russia! are inadmissible.
According to Yabloko’s leader, the discussion of international
terrorism in the Duma in a closed regime was justified as “the
positions of some deputies could be painful for some countries.”
