The resignation of Evgeni Primakov from the post of the leader of Fatherland-All Russia faction will not affect his political authority. This is how the Yabloko leader Grigory Yavlinsky commented on the change of leadership in the Fatherland-All Russia faction. According to Yavlinsky, Primakov’s status as a national politician is more important than the nominal post of leader of one of the Duma factions. Primakov enjoys the authority and respect from all the deputies and factions of the State Duma, irrespective of their political stance, noted Yavlinsky. At the same time, Yavlinsky believes that the future of Fatherland-All Russia looked unclear from the very moment when they decided to merge Fatherland and Unity, rather than today. However, l it remains unclear how these political structures will interact with each other, what will be result of the union and how this will affect the work of the State Duma. Yavlinsky added in conclusion: “This may be! one of the explanations why Primakov thinks that he does not need any nominal posts.”.
