Speech of Grigory Yavlinsky at the mourning meeting on the Memory Day of the Victims of Political Repressions

Moscow, Lubyanka Square, October 30, 2000

Moscow, Lubyanka Square, October 30, 2000Dear friends,

We are here together. There are much more of us than they think. Friends, not only we refuse to forget about the past as it actually was, we can also see what is happening. We feel that the danger of Stalinism has not perished. We know that today people’s hands are also being twisted by using different means. We see that there are many people who want to repeat the past.

Today I would like address all of you and tell you that we think that every rural administration and every municipal administration, in every federation subject, in front of their buildings, should put an obelisk to remember the repressions carried out by the previous authorities in Russia.

We should every day and every minute remind the people that Stalinism may return. Let us stand together and let us refuse to give up our freedom!
