The Krasnodar branch of the YABLOKO party expresses its protest in view of dismissal of Elena Kovalyova, Director of cinema theatre "Russia" in Tuapse. YABLOKO stated that Kovalyova was fired in violation of the Labor Code, but the real reason behind the dismissal was her principled stand against election fraud.

YABLOKO members are going to apply to the Ministry of Culture and the Department of Culture of the Krasnodar Area with a statement running that such violations of the labour law are inadmissible.

According to the Krasnodar YABLOKO activists, Kovalyovas dismissal was connected with the fact that she did not allow fraud with votes at the polling station located in her cinema. Thus, the Communist Party gained 29 per cent and the ruling United Russia party only 32 per cent, which was one of the lowest results of this party in the Tuapse region. "This happened due to interaction of the director of the cinema to falsifications in this polling station. Consequently, the authorities of the area decided to dismiss Elena Kovalyova due to her honest civil stance, YABLOKO activists said.

According to Krasnodar YABLOKO activists, Herman Apitin, deputy head of the Tuapse district, had been threatening Kovalyova with dismissal if she refused to follow the instructions of the authorities.

Elena Kovalyova was fired by the order of Alexander Chekhov, head of the urban settlement of Tuapse, without any explanations.
