A new public organisation -
the Civil Union of Vladimir was established in Vladimir. The founders of
the union are regional branches of two parties – the Russian Democratic
Party YABLOKO and the Union of Right-Wing Forces (SPS).
The meeting of the new organisation which took place on Saturday, April 24, 2004, in Vladimir, approved the name, the by-laws and the emblem of the union. Leader of the regional YABLOKO branch Vyacheslav Korolyov and Chairman of the regional SPS organisations Sergei Sakharov were elected co-chairpersons of the Civil Union of Vladimir; Board consisting of six members was also formed.
Deputy Head of the Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO Sergei Mitrokhin and member of the Federal Political Council of SPS Alexei Kara-Murza made speeches at the meeting.
The activists of the Civil Union of Vladimir called on all civil organizations of the region to cooperate. One of the first steps in such cooperation will involve participation in the actions Civil Society Against a Police State which will take place on May 1 in many regions of the country, including the city of Vladimir.
