Member of the Yabloko faction, Deputy Head of the Duma Security Committee and journalist Yuri Schekochikhin is taken under state protection owing to threats

On Tuesday, February 19, 2002, member of the Yabloko faction, Deputy Head of the Duma Security Committee and well-known journalist Yuri Schekochikhin was taken under state protection.

The law-enforcement agencies had to take this measure owing to threats against Yuri Schekochikhin and his family members. The journalist received threats after the publication of his article "The holders of orders. Who can close a criminal persecution and how much does it cost" in Novaya Gazeta No. 12 dated February 18-20, 2002.

The article dealt with corruption in the Public Prosecutor General Office.
