The Yabloko leader Grigory Yavlinsky applied to the Central Electoral Commission to investigate the recent elections of deputies of the city assembly of Elista (Kalmykia).

In a letter forwarded to the head of the Central Electoral Commission Alexander Veshnyakov on February 7, 2001, Yavlinsky cited instances of "the grossest breaches" disclosed by observers from Yabloko.

The letter notes: "These breaches make it impossible to positively assess the will of the electorate, which necessitates the invalidation of the results of recent elections to the city assembly of Elista".

The Yabloko leader asks the Head of the Central Electoral Commission to "adopt the necessary measures to protect the electoral rights of the candidates and citizens that were violated."

The elections of the deputies of the city assembly of the capital of Kalmykia were held on February 4, 2001.

Based on Interfax reports.
