Since September 2000, five members and candidates from Yabloko have been elected during election campaign to the legislative assemblies of federation subjects, 116 Yabloko members to other representative authorities and three became city mayors. In addition, six governors, nine mayors of large cities and dozens of deputies of different levels were elected with Yabloko’s support. The Bureau of the Central Council positively assessed the decision to hold regional election campaigns using internal resources, without hiring outside PR specialists. It was also stressed that Yabloko had established during election campaigns good business relations with the newly elected heads of the regions, that agreements on joint work in specific projects had also been reached and that Yabloko members had been invited to take part in the regional administrations. At present, taking into account the past elections, 258 members of Yabloko became deputies at different levels, including 44 deputies of representative state authorities in federation subjects, six – chairs and deputy chairs in the representative authorities and nine – mayors and heads of local governments. The Bureau of the Central Council also agreed with the decision of a local organisation of Yabloko to support Alexander Khloponin, the General Director of RAO “Norilsk Nickel”, who is running for the post of governor in the Taimyr Autonomous District, competing with the present governor Gennagi Nedelin. The elections are scheduled on January 28, 2001.
