The leader of Yabloko, Grigory Yavlinsky,
will participate in the
plenary
meeting of the International Crisis Group, to be held
in Jakarta,
Indonesia,
on September 9-11, 2000.
The ICG is a private multinational
organisation, established in 1985 and committed
to helping the international community prevent and
avert crises. The ICG won international recognition
for its analysis and proposals for the resolution
of the conflicts in the Balkans and Central Africa;
the ICG also works in Northern Ireland, Central and
South-East Asia.
The present meeting will discuss the
issue of creating a “Conciliatory Commission” as a
means of reaching civil accord in Indonesia after
the coup in 1998.
The Board of the ICG comprises politicians,
former heads of states, prime ministers and foreign
ministers, in particular, the ex-President of Finland
Martti Ahtisaari, ex-President of the European Commission
Jacques Delors, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander
Wesley Clark and others; in July 2000 Grigory Yavlinsky
was elected as a member of the ICG Board.
The ICG is financed by the European
Community, the governments of 16 countries of Western
and Northern Europe, Japan, and Australia and also
private foundations.
