Leader of Yabloko, Grigory Yavlinsky, to participate in meeting of the International Crisis Group

The leader of Yabloko, Grigory Yavlinsky, will participate in the plenary meeting of the International Crisis Group, to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 9-11, 2000.

The ICG is a private multinational organisation, established in 1985 and committed to helping the international community prevent and avert crises. The ICG won international recognition for its analysis and proposals for the resolution of the conflicts in the Balkans and Central Africa; the ICG also works in Northern Ireland, Central and South-East Asia.

The present meeting will discuss the issue of creating a “Conciliatory Commission” as a means of reaching civil accord in Indonesia after the coup in 1998.

The Board of the ICG comprises politicians, former heads of states, prime ministers and foreign ministers, in particular, the ex-President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, ex-President of the European Commission Jacques Delors, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Wesley Clark and others; in July 2000 Grigory Yavlinsky was elected as a member of the ICG Board.

The ICG is financed by the European Community, the governments of 16 countries of Western and Northern Europe, Japan, and Australia and also private foundations.
