The Yabloko faction supports the initiatives of the President
of the Russian Federation regarding relationships between
the federal centre and the regions, as well as the order
of the formation of the Federation Council.
Deputy Head of the Yabloko faction Sergei Ivanenko informed
journalists on May 18, 2000, that “Yabloko raised these
issues a long time ago”. He also said that corresponding
consultations had been held with Yabloko representatives
and added that the proposals that the President is going
to submit to the Duma are not "spontaneous decisions”. Sergei
Ivanenko also expressed his opinion that the “margin of
safety” for these projects should be at least 300 votes
of Duma deputies, as they may be vetoed by the Federation
Council after the adoption of these laws by the Duma.
