Anti-Semite behaviour in Pskov

Unknown individuals carried out an anti-Semite protest in Pskov at night on April 6, 2000.

According to the head of the Pskov regional division of the Yabloko party Lev Schlosberg, tins with colours were smashed over the wall by the entrance to the building of Pskov Free University, inscribed with black graffiti "Death to the Jews!" and "Kill Schlosberg!"

The same black hexahedral stars were drawn on the plaques of the University. The militia have launched an investigation. The Pskov Free University was established in 1992. This is the first non-state education institution in the Pskov region. The leader of the Yabloko faction Grigory Yavlinsky has been honorary rector of the University since 1994.

Lev Schlosberg pioneered the creation of the University and is one of its founders. In the past election campaign he was an authorised representative of Grigory Yavlinsky.

According to Lev Schlosberg, "fascist thugs have stirred up from time to time in Pskov since the beginning of the 1990s". "Nazi inscriptions have appeared on the walls on several occasions in Pskov, including on the buildings of the city administration and city Duma," said Lev Schlosberg. "Although the perpetrators were found, they were not prosecuted in court." He also noted that "these Nazis organised even personal and psychological terror against some families".

Lev Schlosberg also said that "the administration of the Free University has decided to keep the fascists' graffiti on its walls for some time for everybody to see". "We are relying on a public reaction, which will make the authorities pay attention to the actions of local Nazis," stressed Lev Schlosberg.
