The Yabloko faction plans to propose to the State Duma
that it consider as part of the parliamentary hour on February
9, 2000 the additional issue of the fate of Andrei Babitsky,
a journalist from the “Svoboda” radio station, who was arrested
in Chechnya and then exchanged for Russian military captives.
According to Eugeniya Dillendorf, Head of the Press Service
of the Yabloko faction, such a decision was taken by the
faction at a meeting on February 8, 2000.
On February 11, 2000 as part of the parliamentary hour
the deputies are going to listen to speeches from Igor Sergeev,
the Minister of Defence, Vladimir Rushailo, the Minister
of the Interior and Nikolai Koshman, a Plenipotentiary Representative
of the President of the RF in the Chechen Republic.
The speeches will evolve around the fight with the terrorists
and measures to resolve the socio-economic problems in Chechnya.
A special issue on Andrei Babitsky had to be included in
the agenda, as the officials invited to the Duma have the
right not to answer any questions beyond the topic of the
parliamentary hour.
At a meeting of the Yabloko faction, its members reiterated
once again their indignation over the developments surrounding
Andrei Babitsky.
