On 22 April, Earth Day is celebrated around the world. Its goal is to draw attention to environmental and nature issues. Yabloko in Moscow and the Russian regions will hold environmental and peacekeeping actions dedicated to the International Earth Day: party activists will plant trees during the week, hold community cleanups, and discuss the regional environmental agenda. In addition, the Yabloko members will ring the Peace Bell in a number of cities in our country: this symbolic action will be a reminder of the need for peace on Earth. Yabloko invites everyone to join the actions in Moscow and the Russian regions.
Two municipal deputies from Yabloko – Vladimir Petrov in Seversk, the Tomsk region, and Nikolai Sorokin in Kostroma – were deprived of their mandates. The formal reasons were the demand of the city public prosecutor’s office due to the verdict in a criminal case and “inaccuracies in the declaration”. In fact, in both cases, local authorities got rid of actively working deputies who protected the interests of citizens.

Yabloko in Moscow and regional branches is preparing regular actions in support of political prisoners. We invite everyone who is not indifferent to the plight of those unjustly deprived of their freedom to join the actions. The organisers promise a friendly atmosphere and everything one needs to prepare letters and postcards.
On April 22, an open discussion of the Eco-Manifesto for Chelyabinsk will be held at the office of the Chelyabinsk regional branch of the Yabloko party. The event starts at 18:30. Everyone is invited to participate in the discussion.
Eco-Mnifesto represents a comprehensive programme of concrete actions to solve environmental problems in Chelyabinsk.

On 17 April, the majority of deputies of the Moscow City Duma ignored Sergei Mitrokhin’s draft appeal to the Moscow Mayor. Mitrokhin demands that Mayor must return to Muscovites their right to get information about construction projects planned in their area. The document, which received support from deputies of A Just Russia and the Communist Party, received only 14 votes in favour, since representatives of pro-government’s United Russia and My Moscow traditionally left the meeting room during the discussion of the draft intiatated by a Yabloko deputy.
On the eve of Local Government Day, 21 April, the Yabloko party in St. Petersburg decided to announce the launch of its municipal election campaign. Elections of deputies to municipal councils will be held in St.Petersburg in September 2024.
On 15 April, a screening and discussion of the film “The Key to a Clockwork Orange” (2014) was held at Yabloko. The documentary film by Grigory Grishin and Olga Yakovleva about the phenomenon of war between the youth movements of “anti-fascists” and “nationalists” on the streets of Russia in the 2000s provoked a discussion about the physiological and social nature of violence, the attitude of the state towards subcultures and the transformation of the main protagonists – the leaders and active participants in youth movements in Moscow and Saratov.

The office of the Yabloko branch in Bashkiria has launched collection of humanitarian aid for flood victims in the Orenburg region. For four days, from Thursday to Sunday, volunteers will accept essential items and food-stuffs. Reception hours: from 13:00 to 19:00. Then everything collected will be packed into boxes and sent to the Orenburg volunteer headquarters for distribution to those in need.
A court in Izhevsk fined an official of the Ministry of Education of Udmurtia for ignoring an official inquiry from the Chair of the Yabloko branch in Udmurtia, Iya Boronina. Boronina’s inquiry to the ministry concerned ensuring anti-terrorist and security measures in schools.
On 15 April, the Standing Commission of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg on Education, Culture and Science approved the initiative of State Duma deputies to amend the law “On Librarianship”. Only the head of the Yabloko faction, Alexander Shishlov, spoke out against it.
On 11 April, the television play “Sforza” was shown at Yabloko as part of the Another View” festival. The performance by Alexei Zherebtsov, based on the novel-play by Sasha Denisova, takes us to Milan in the 15th century. We find ourselves in the Middle Ages with all its attributes: a ruler behind the walls of the Kremlin; poisoning as a method of reprisal against enemies; and traditional spiritual ties and tarot.

Oleg Petrovich Orlov is 71. He encounters the first day of his life in captivity, where he’s found himself on the decision of a ‘court’ implementing a shameful political order.
The corresponding letter was sent on behalf of the Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin and Minister of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov.
The leader of Yabloko said that the party considers the disaster in the Orenburg, Kurgan and Chelyabinsk regions to be a national emergency, and after assessing the situation, we can conclude that the resources of regional and local authorities to solve emergency problems are not enough, and humanitarian aid currently delivered to the region by the Ministry of Emergency Situations does not cover people’s needs.

In March 2024, Anna Cherepanova, a Yabloko deputy in the Novgorod City Duma, appealed to Public Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Arkady Gostev and Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova with a demand to deal with violations of women’s rights in penal colonies in the Altai and Krasnoyarsk territories. The violations became known from a letter from political prisoner Maria Ponomarenko. Maria is a persistent fighter, she does not give up even in detention, she defends the rights of convicts, writes complaints, and demands humane treatment, Anna Cherepanova says.

On the evening of 5 April, emergency reports appeared that a dam broke in the city of Orsk, the Orenburg Region, and that the evacuation of residents began. On 6 April, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on negligence and violation of safety rules during construction work. Water began to enter neighbouring areas, including the capital of the region, Orenburg. The head of the Yabloko party branch in the village of Novaya Biofabrika (Orsk), Nina Avdeyeva, told us about the situation in the city on 10 April:
Yabloko’s initiative to reduce the municipal filter for candidates failed

Only 17 deputies in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, supported the initiative of the Yabloko faction to reduce the municipal filter for gubernatorial candidates. Now the city has the highest “threshold” for candidates: to be registered in the race a candidate must provide 10%, i.e. about 150 signatures of St.Petersburg municipal deputies in his/her favour. The law allows to reduce this threashold to 5%, which is what the Yabloko faction proposed to use.
The Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko expresses deep condolences to the families of all residents of the Orenburg region who died in the flood. We express solidarity with all those affected by the disaster.
