Yabloko and the Communist party, challenge election results in court

MOSCOW, September 27 (Itar-Tass) – The Yabloko and Communist parties lodged their long-promised appeals over the cancellation of the results of the 2003 elections to the State Duma, or parliament's lower house at the Russian Supreme Court on Monday. The two parties said that the Central Election Commission should be held responsible for approving vote protocols and ignoring violations in the elections.

The claimants maintain that observers discovered a difference of 254,000 votes between their own figures and the Central Election Commission's protocols, which they said skewed shares of seats in the lower house.
