YABLOKO: The President’s state of the nation address indicates that nothing will change in Russia over the next four years

Moscow, May 26. The President’s state of the nation address to the Federal Assembly of the RF demonstrates that nothing will change in Russia over the next four years. This statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the YABLOKO party Sergei Ivanenko to a Rosbalt correspondent. “Putin has clearly confirmed the continuity of his plans for a second term where great power statehood will come to the fore, with human rights and democratic freedoms placed on the backburner,” stressed Ivanenko.

The President’s statement that at least a third of Russian citizens should have an opportunity to buy housing by 2010 reminded Ivanenko of the slogan at one of the recent CPSU congresses: “Every family will get its own flat by 2000.” “No one argues that mortgaging should develop and cheap mass-scale housing should be built, the question is different –how should this be done?” noted Ivanenko. According to Ivanenko, the housing problem cannot be resolved without attracting investments and a favourable investment climate cannot exist in a society, where there is no drive against corruption or bureaucracy. “Unfortunately, the President has neglected these issues. He did not even mention administrative reform, which came as a great surprise to me,” concluded deputy Head of YABLOKO.
