Putin opposes revision of privatisation results

Vladimir Putin opposes nationalisation and the revision of privatisation results, and holds the view that this will be even more harmful than privatisation. At a meeting with graduates and students of Columbia University, Vladimir Putin noted that a large-scale sale of state property occurred in Russia in the early 1990s.

"This was not always done within common sense and for economic considerations, it was done for political considerations, and the idea was to create, by selling state property, a class of society which would not permit the reversal of Russia and would struggle for what it has obtained", the head of the Russian state said. He also noted that most Russian citizens considered the past privatization to be unfair. But, as the president stated, "if privatisation results are revised, this will be even more harmful than privatisation." "I am against nationalisation and the revision of privatisation results," he noted.

Commenting on the idea of Grigory Yavlinsky, leader of the Yabloko party, to declare an amnesty on privatisation, Putin noted that it was necessary to translate this idea into reality correctly from legal and political points of view, something which is hard to do. // RIA-Novosti
