Parties Still Hopeful

MOSCOW (AP) -- Russia's two leading liberal parties may still agree to coordinate their campaigns for the December parliamentary elections despite the collapse of cooperation talks, their leaders said Wednesday.

The Union of Right Forces, or SPS, and Yabloko have long pledged to pool their electoral efforts, but the latest attempt ended in failure earlier this month when the two parties reneged on their promise to name joint candidates in electoral districts.

SPS co-leader Irina Khakamada and one of Yabloko's leaders, Sergei Ivanenko, blamed each other for the collapse of the talks in comments on Ekho Moskvy radio Wednesday, but held out hope that their parties could still reach a deal.
