Makarov/. The Yabloko party comes out for the European way of
Russia's development, Grigory Yavlinsky, re-elected Yabloko leader,
announced this at the 10th Yabloko congress on Sunday.
According to Yavlinsky, Yabloko, a political constituent of the
civil society springing up in Russia, "considers it its duty
to protect human rights and liberties".
Yabloko is a "liberal and social party," he said. But,
in his opinion, "liberty needs responsibility, justice, tolerance
Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev who attended the congress
guest said that his Social-Democratic Party reckons upon further
dialogue and cooperation with Yabloko.
The delegates of the 10th Yabloko congress which began its work
on Saturday, December 22, decided to reform the association into
a political party. Meanwhile, the elections of the party leadership
dragged on and ended only on Sunday morning.
