According to a Press-Centr correspondent, the Sverdlovsk regional
branch of Yabloko supported the nation-wide action to collect
signatures against the law on the import of nuclear waste to Russia.
The activists are collecting signatures that will be sent to Moscow
on May 17. For each signature Yabloko activists give a symbolic
US dollar, the reverse side of which bears an inscription "This
is your share in the 20 bln". The heads of the Sverdlovsk
regional branch of Yabloko recognise that they do not think that
the adoption of law can really be stopped now, but hope that the
Duma deputies will at least manage to introduce their amendments
to the law. The prime concern of Yabloko's activists is that the
money [obtained for the import and storage of nuclear waste] may
not be allotted to the [ecology] programmes stipulated. After
the present action the leaders of the regional branch of Yabloko
plan to prepare a regional referendum against the adoption of
the law allowing for the import of nuclear waste to Sverdlovsk
Region.
