Leader of St.Petersburg YABLOKO welcomed the proposal
by St.Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko to search for
a new site for construction of Gazprom’s skyscraper. According
to Reznik, such a decision by the Governor results from long-term
fight by the defenders of the historical centre of the city
and the dialogue between the Governor and architects and historians
with has finally begun.
“We have always proposed alternative sites for construction
[of Gazprom’s skyscraper],” said Reznik. As early as in 2006
St.Petersburg YABLOKO proposed another site. “I am certain
that our colleagues in negotiations will propose more sites.
As we should not destroy the [historical outlook of St.Petersburg]
created by previous generations so that to build something
new,” added Reznik.
According to Reznik, St.Petersburg branch of YABLOKO now
waits for Governor’s definite steps in confirmation of her
words.
