President of Russia supported YABLOKO’s amendment to the law on police

Past week President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev conducted a meeting for discussion of the draft federal law “On Police”. At the meeting the President also spoke on two amendments proposed by the YABLOKO party.

A special web-site created for public discussion of the draft law on police demonstrated that eight out of ten amendments proposed by YABLOKO’s leader Sergei Mitrokhin to the new law were in the top of the public voting rating.

President Medvedev noted hat the article granting the police a right of unsanctioned access to any premises requires “serious attention”. He said that the order of police access to living premises needs “detailed regulation”. YABLOKO is of the same opinion. According to the present variant of the draft law proposed by its developers the police enjoys access to any living premises without any prior court’s decision even if it chases a witness.

President also supported YABLOKO’s proposal that a policeman should wear a badge with his/her name and an indication to which department he/she belongs to.

“At present it is yet unclear whether other our amendments - both those voted for at the web-site and those contained in YABLOKO’s alternative draft law - are supported. We shall continue campaigning for shaping the draft law into a good law,” YABLOKO’s leader Sergei Mitrokhin said.

YABLOKO continues its work over development of an alternative draft law.
