This summer Byvalino village, Moscow region, was severely
damaged by fire. All the buildings by Saint Martyr Nikita
Temple burnt down: children’s school by the temple, canteen,
archive, sewing shops and prior’s cell.
YABLOKO collected money for aid for the victims of fires
throughout August. It was decided that part of these funds
should go on the purchase of sporting clothes and school supplies
for the sunday school, which lost virtually everything during
fire: pupils’ private belongings, school supplies, toys and
books.
A bare place is now on the place where temple’s buildings
were situated. Construction has already begun, however, a
lot is still reminding of the disaster.
Mother Iosapha welcomed YABLOKO’s activists, introduced them
to the children, invited them to tea and told how the orphanage
and the school were created. The orphanage was created in
early 1990s. Children from the neighbouring villages first
came to a camp where children were entertained by probationers
from the temple. Some children from problem families asked
them to leave them in the temple, where they felt more comfortable.
Thus an orphanage was created. Today it hosts 19 children
from 6 to 16, including orphans and children from problem
families.
YABLOKO’s activists handed presents to children. Children
were very glad to receive presents and promised to make apple-pies
from the apples (YABLOKO means “apple” in Russian) brought
to them by the activists.
