YABLOKO’s leader Sergei Mitrokhin expressed his satisfaction
with the decision of the Constitutional Court of the Russian
Federation on the complaint from YABLOKO’s member Andrei Malitsky.
The Constitutional Court ruled out that some provisions on
the Russian Federaiton law “On the Basic Guarantees of Franchise
and the Right to Referendum” connected with a ban for the
citizens residing in a foreign state to be members of electoral
commissions. Being a Russian citizen Malitsky obtained in
2009 a residence permit in Lithuania. Due to this fact he
was expelled from a territorial electoral commission in Moscow
where he represented YABLOKO’s interests.
YABLOKO demanded that Malitsky’s lawful right should be restored.
Now the Constitutional Court acknowledged the lawfulness of
Malitsky’s claim. According to Mitrokhin, “the norms restricting
the rights of the Russian citizens to be elected to the state
power and local self-government bodies should be recognised
unconstitutional too.”
