An action “For St.Petersburg Without Matviyenko” started in the Internet

Press Release,
April 20, 2010

Web-site “For St.Petersburg without Matviyenko” (http://www.piter-bez-matvienko.ru/) collecting signatures in favour of resignation of St.Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko has been launched.

“We, citizens of St.Petersburg, demand resignation of Governor Valentina Matviyenko; for six and a half years she has been in power we have been clearly shown that the policies conducted by her administration is hostile to the interests of the citizens and represents a consistent violation of their rights,” runs the address to the citizens.

The citizens blame the Governor in ruining the historical part of the city, lobbying building of Gazprom’s skyscraper which will not only spoil the city view but will lead to excluding St.Petersburg from UNESCO’s list of the world heritage, as well as elimination of trees, violation of property rights, reprisals against small business, havoc in the housing and utilities sector and violation of constitutional rights of the citizens.

“There may be only one assessment of Valentina Matviyenko’s performance – she must leave!” say the initiators of collection of signatures for her resignation.

Putting a signature a person can also indicate why he or she is asking Matviyenko to leave.

The action is initiated by St.Petersburg YABLOKO.

Also a democratic march for dismissal of Matviyenko from her post will be conducted on May 1.
