The book provides the decision of YABLOKO’s
Political Committee on overcoming Stalin’s and Bolsheviks’
legacy, offers political assessment of the key issues of
Russia’s history in the 20th century and also suggests that
overcoming Stalinism and Bolshevism should be the key pre-requisite
of Russia’s modernisation. Such a political decision containing
an assessment of the Stalin’s system and the coup of October
1917 was adopted for the first time in Russia.
The book also offers to its readers a discussion of the
issue with participation of Russia’s leading human rights
activists and experts, including head of the International
Helsinki Group Ludmila Alexeyeva, Chair of the Board of
the International Society Memorial Arseny Roginsky and other.
The edition also contains publications, speeches and comments
in the mass media by members of YABLOKO’s Political Committee,
including Grigory Yavlinsky, Sergei Mitrokhin and other,
as well as experts.
The booklet “1937. Articles and Documents” (containing
documents of the Stain’s terror and photographs of the period
from the Memorial society) are also included into the book.
Public speeches and comments in the mass media connected
with overcoming of the totalitarian past (both preceding
the decision of the Political Committee and emerging after
the adoption of the decision) are included into the second
edition of the book. Also new documents our of the State
Archive of Social and Political History and Presidential
Adminstraiton granted by the Memorial Society are also added
to the new edition.
The editors of the second edition are Boris Misnik and
Galina Mikhalyova.
