From Chairman of the YABLOKO party
October 26, 2009

The Russian United Democratic Party YABLOKO congratulates renowned human rights activists Ludmila Alexeyeva, Sergei Kovalyov and Oleg Orlov on receiving the Sakharov prize.

It is hard to find more deserving people for this prize. Your names, as well as the names of Memorial and the Moscow Helsinki Group have already become symbols associated with fight for human rights, human dignity, for the country respecting its citizens and respected by the citizens.

However, the Sakharov prize awarded to you pays tribute not only to the past deeds. This is the evidence that our society is in a complicated situation now, and of how difficult your work is and how it is necessary for the country and for every citizen of this country.

The fact that we participate in this work and are your friends and colleagues is of great value for YABLOKO.

We are wishing you patience and energy required for your daily work which gives Russia hopes of a dignified future.

Sergei Mitrokhin,
Chairman of the YABLOKO party
