St.Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko should think about the inevitable trial of history and not only this

Statement by the St.Petersburg branch of the YABLOKO party
September 22, 2009

Trampling down the law and neglecting public opinion and protests by the renowned cultural figures, scientists, architects, including those who developed the City Planning Code of St.Petersburg, the government of St.Petersburg allowed Gazprom to build a 403 m high skyscraper.

This is a pert spit to all of us, who value the historical look of St.Petersburg.

This is a desire to demonstrate to us that the opinion of the villains is worth nothing compared to the will of the lord.

This is announcing war to the society and Law.

We are accepting the battle. And shall conduct it until victory over vandals who are temporarily set to rule our favourite city.

Those who voted for this decision – and Governor Valentina Matviyenko first of all – should think about the inevitable trial of history. And only it: we shall do all we can so that they would by judged by an ordinary trial too. The next meeting of the Bureau of St.Petersburg YABLOKO will examine the issue of launching a campaign for the resignation of Governor Matviyenko. We shall use all the lawful means so that this monstrous decision be revoked.

We are calling all who worship Petersburg, whatever political views they share, to join in a fight for preservation of the city our ancestors left for us. They defended Leningrad and we should preserve St.Petersburg!

This is our duty.

This is our city!

Maxim Reznik,
Chairman of St.Petersburg YABLOKO
