Activists of the Youth YABLOKO organisation of St.Petersburg conducted an action to commemorate five years since abolishing of gubernatorial elections in Russia, writes Zaks.ru correspondent.

Activists wearing masks of governors Valentina Matvienko, Yuri Luzhkov, Valery Serdyukov, President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov and a mask of “Vladimir Medvedev” (a photoshop merging Vladimir Putin and Dmrity Medvedev) showed a theatrical performance.

During the theatrical performance the “Governors” obeyed every whim of the President, blew off particles of dust from his clothes, served him drinks and jollied along.

The performance took place on a large sheet of paper with inscription “The People”. Thus the activists wanted to demonstrate that abolishing of gubernatorial elections led to a situation when heads of regions are busy singing praises to their boss rather than taking care of the people. In addition YABLOKO’s activists held a large placard with quotations from Vladimir Putin and a statement that Putin used the Beslan school tragedy so that to abolish gubernatorial elections. The police who copied the inscriptions of the placards watched the action, however. Did not interfere.

Leonid Kurza, ex-leader of the Nashi (Our) movement in St.Petersburg and his colleagues also came to watch the action.
