The YABLOKO party expresses its strong protest against boosting
the atmosphere of spy scare and provocations around the Planet
of Hope (Planeta Nadezhd) public organisation in the Chelyabinsk
region by security agencies
The activities of the organisation are transparent and legal,
they are connected with protection of the rights of the victims
of the ecological disaster at PO Mayak, rendering of humanitarian
aid to the victims and provision of legal assistance to them
in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasburg. The leaders
of the organisation are renowned ecologists, human rights
activists, leaders of the Chelyabinsk branch of YABLOKO and
activists of the Green Russia faction. The local federal security
department has been constantly hindering the work of the Planet
of Hope exploiting the idea of fight with terrorists and spies.
Pressure toward the Planet of Hope represents another example
of repressionist policies towards human rights activists from
the law enforcement bodies. Both on the federal and regional
levels we observe enhancement of the spy scare and search
of the “foes of the nation” and typical Stalinist methods
of governing.
The YABLOKO party states that it will undertake all the possible
legal actions for protection of its members and allies who
are dedicated to protection of citizens’ interests and rights.
We demand that unlawful persecution of the Planet of Hope
organisation should be immediately stopped.
