One more Moscow park protected by YABLOKO

The Prefect’s Office of the Southern District of Moscow cancelled its resolution on construction of a restaurant on the territory of the Bitsevsky park. Such a statement has been made by an official from the Prefect’s Office today during a protest action against such construction. According to the official, the fence around the construction site as well as all the constructions will be dismantled within 30 days.

Sergei Mitrokhin, YABLOKO’s leader and deputy of the Moscow City Duma made a speech at the action congratulating Muscovites with a victory. “We would not be able to succeed here without your mass-scale resistance [to unlawful construction in the natural reserve],” Mitrokhin said. At the same time YABLOKO’s leader called the participants of the action to stay on guard and counteract to any such construction plans in the park.

Mitrokhin also told to the gathering that Public Prosecutor’s Office in a reply on his deputy’s inquiry informed that they were going to find out how such a situation emerged.

Mitrokhin also told to the participants of the action that YABLOKO managed to block the draft law envisaging 1 per cent reductions of specially protected natural territories once in three years

According to Mitrokhin, earlier due to YABLOKO’s efforts the city of Moscow managed to preserve Lilac Garden on the east of Moscow, Sadovniki Park in the south, also YABLOKO stopped several attempts to start construction works in the natural reserve at Losiny Island in Moscow.

Other speakers expressed their gratitude to the YABLOKO party and their readiness to assist to the party in the election campaign.
