Deputy Head of the Yabloko faction Sergei Ivanenko sharply criticised the situation around the TV-6 channel (Ed. closing of the channel where the former team of NTV now works under the pretext of bankruptcy). “I think this represents a continuation of the policies aimed at depriving our society of the chance to receive independent information,” said Sergei Ivanenko in an interview with journalists on Tuesday November 27, 2001.

According to Ivanenko, it is a pity that “the only remaining independent
channel in the country is being closed down under the pretext of
bankruptcy.” According to Ivanenko, today “any enterprise starting from Gazprom and ending with a shop at Tverskaya street in Moscow” could be subjected to bankruptcy laws in Russia.

Ivanenko expressed his regret that a court decision is being used to
redistribute property. He also thinks that not only economic, but also
political interests are playing a role in this case.

On the threshold of November 26, the court of appeal of the Moscow
Arbitration Court left in force the decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court (from September 27 ) to liquidate ZAO “The Moscow Independent Broadcasting Corporation” which broadcasts on the TV-6 channel.
