On October 15-18, 2001 the leader of the Yabloko party Grigory Yavlinsky will participate in the annual international conference “Forum 2000”. The conference has been held in Prague under the protectorate of the President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel since 1997.

“We have to understand why mankind is idle, even though it is aware of the dangers threatening to unleash a whirlpool.” This is Havel determined the goal of the conference. Politicians, academics, Nobel prize winners in literature, arts and science and political scientists are invited to the Forum.

This year the topic of the Forum will be “Human Rights: In Search of Mutual Responsibility” The first day will be devoted to a discussion of the situation with human rights from the point of view of different world cultures; the second to discussion of the role and place of international institutions in the protection of human rights; the third – to the problem of the priority of human rights over state sovereignty. Yavlinsky’s report is scheduled for the second day of the conference.

This year the conference invited the Dalai Lama, the former President of Germany, Richard von Weizsacker who signed the treaty on the re-union of Germany, ex-President of South Africa Frederik Willem de Klerk, ex-President of the USA Bill Clinton, human rights defender Sergei Kovalyov, writer and journalist Adam Michnik, scholar and political scientist H.E. Sheikh Abbas Mohajerani, scholar and politician H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Mohammed Ali, Prince of Jordan HRH El Hassan bin Talal, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, political scientist Jacques Rupnik, philosopher and political scientist Francis Fukuyama.
