The Russian Federation should intensify its efforts in domestic security provisions without reducing its measures to mere support of the US anti-terrorist operation. This opinion was expressed by the leader of the Yabloko faction Grigory Yavlinsky in an interview with journalists before the beginning of a meeting with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

It is expected that combating international terrorism will be discussed during this meeting. According to Yavlinsky, the position of President Putin regarding the recent tragic events in the USA has been “firmly worded and clearly expressed”: it coincides with the position of the eight leading Western states and implies the provision of political and moral support to the US actions in response to the challenge of the terrorists.

However, Yabloko’s leader believes that the present situation in the world requires from Russia adoption of additional measures to maintain its own security. Yabloko, according to Yavlinsky, advocates the allocation of additional budgetary funds to consolidate Russia’s southern borders, security measures at nuclear objects and nuclear power stations and creation of the anti-terrorist centres.
