Grigory Yavlinsky calls on USA to refrain from unjustified retaliatory measures after the acts of terrorism

12.09.2001

The leader of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky thinks that the so-called “retaliatory measures” in response to the terrorists’ acts are unjustified and will only lead to more victims.

“This tangle of violence should not be allowed to develop endlessly,” Yavlinsky told journalists (on Wednesday September 12, 2001) after the tragic events in the USA on Tuesday September 11, 2001.

According to Yavlinsky, “the approaches that can be used in private in personal relations late at night are absolutely inadmissible here”, “this has nothing in common with interstate relations”.

Yavlinsky also thinks that the acts of terror in New York and Washington, D.C., represent in fact “the beginning of a new era”, when the cooperation of large super-powers, such as the USA and Russia in their fight against terrorism “is virtually predetermined”.

According to Yavlinsky, it is very important today without haste, to “calmly and thoroughly” uncover the roots of international terrorism and work out practical measures to prevent acts of terror in the future.
