Accreditation for Yabloko’s congress on December 14-15 is open

This weekend, December 14-15, the 21st congress of the Yabloko party will be held in Moscow. Yabloko Chairperson, Deputy Chairperons, members of the Federal Political Committee and the Bureau will be elected at the Congress.

The Congress will open on December 14 at 10 a.m. In the first half of the day, political reports and reports on the work done by the party over the four year period will be made by Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova and Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of the party, the reports will be followed by a discussion.

Today, Yabloko party Chair Emilia Slabunova criticised the law on protecting investments and encouraging investment at a meeting of the State Duma. The Russian parliament was examining the bill in the first reading.

“It is impossible to improve the investment climate without improving the political climate, without a radical transformation of the judicial system and all the law enforcement,” Slabunova said.

On 10 December, ex-Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov died aged 83. The condolences to the family of the deceased were expressed by Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko, who worked with Luzhkov in the Committee for the Operational Management of the National Economy of the USSR which exercised the functions of the Russian Government after its dismissal on 28 August of 1991, after a failed coup:

Yuri Luzhkov was a bright and interesting person of a bygone era, a political and public figure of the transition period. He himself, his life and work, reflected all the features and contradictions of that time.

The Moscow office of Yabloko has become a collection point for New Year’s gifts for homeless people

From December 2 to 22, the Nochlezhka charity organisation engaged in provision of aid to homeless people collects gifts for homeless as part of the annual campaign. The gifts from homeless will include food-stuffs and things that will help a person in daily survival. On Russia’s polices in the Middle East and Africa

The Federal Political Committee of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko notes the dangerous counterproductiveness of Russia’s policies in the Middle East: the country did not gain allies there but got bogged down in a strange, endless civil war that claimed thousands of lives.

In 2015, the Russian leadership promised that the operation in Syria would last less than a year, then it was announced several times that the operation had been completed and the troops had been withdrawn, and now Vladimir Putin has announced that the Russian army will remain in Syria until the Syrian leadership asks it to leave, that is, to infinity.

Yabloko demanded from public prosecutors from 43 regions to amend the regional laws on rallies

Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova, appealed to public prosecutors of 43 regions of Russia with a request to control the changes in regional laws on rallies in order to bring them in line with the Russian Constitution. Earlier this year, the Constitutional Court passed a ruling that effectively prohibits regional authorities from refusing to hold public rallies because of the proximity of rallies to government buildings, obstruction of transport, or difficulty in accessing social institutions.

The Yabloko party is closely following the case of Alexander Shestun, former head of the Serpukhov district of the Moscow region.

During the investigation and trial, the investigators committed numerous violations, such as inappropriate conditions of detention, use of physical force, and failure to provide medical assistance to a defendant with diabetes. The measures applied to Shestun, in particular, bringing him unconscious to court, do not at all correspond to the gravity of a possible crime. In response to such tratment, Shestun began a hunger strike on 26 November, 2019.

Sergei Ivanenko elected new Chairman of the Moscow branch of Yabloko

The Conference of the Moscow branch of Yabloko elected Sergei Ivanenko, Deputy Chairman of Yabloko, new Chairman of the party’s regional branch in Moscow for a two-year term.

Sergei Ivanenko is a Russian economist, candidate of economic sciences, Deputy Chairman of the Yabloko party and member of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko. In 1993-2003 he was Yabloko MP of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
