LI President: ‘Liberalism stands firm over attack on Malaysian airliner’
In a statement made during his political visit to Manila, the LI President said: “Liberal International sends our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims of this senseless attack and stand with them in their time of grief. Among the dead is someone very close to our large liberal family; the great AIDS and Dutch political campaigner, Pim de Kuijer.
“We categorically condemn those who have launched this vicious attack on a civilian aircraft. A sophisticated surface-to-air missile appears to have caused this tragedy. As Sergei Mitrokhin, – the leader of Liberal International’s full member party Yabloko – has noted, this senseless destruction underlines for the world the deplorable consequences of ‘Russia’s military-political adventurism in the East of Ukraine’. Liberal International stands with Yabloko and urges the Russian government to provide answers to the international community.”
“Liberalism remains firm against those who would want the world to turn back the clock and return Europe to the days of using brute force to solve our political problems. As we learn more of what has happened let us hold the guilty responsible and let us tell them a resounding ‘no more’”.
