The Central Electoral Commission of Russia to apply to Public Prosecutor General because of withdrawal of YABLOKO’s list of candidates in the election to the Petrozavodsk City Council
The Central Electoral Commission of Russia will apply to Public Prosecutor General in view of cancelling of registration of YABLOKO’s list of candidates in the election to the Petrozavodsk City Council. Such a statement was made by Ella Pamfilova, Chair of the Central Electoral Commission, on Tuesday.
“We will certainly support our colleagues within the powers allocated to us. Everything related to our actions, will be connected with [our] application to the Public Prosecutor General’s Office, which has every reason, if it is proved, to go to the Supreme Court with a protest,” TASS quoted Pamfilova.
Registration of the YABLOKO party list of candidates in the elections to the Petrozavodsk City Council has been cancelled today by Natalia Tarabrina, Judge of the Petrozavodsk City Court. In court, the prosecutor called even the fact that some candidates had not indicated [in their CVs] when they have finished school a violation! Even the representative of the Electoral Commission was surprised by such a statement, because in that case they had had to withdraw almost all the candidates and other parties [from the election]. The party intends to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court of Karelia.
Galina Shirshina, who topped the party list in the elections to the Petrozavodsk City Council, said that “nothing terrible happened” and YABLOKO would continue to fight.
The Rodina (Motherland) party claimed in the court [that YABLOKO should be withdrawn from elections] and it was made it clearly in the interests of the ruling party. Moscow lawyer Yuri Komissarov hired by the headquarters of the [ruling] United Russia party represented the interests of Rodina in court.
